ABOUT

Emily Bicht is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Hudson Valley. Bicht works in painting, printmaking, and ceramics to explore identity, belonging, and the tension between desire and reality; often set in the domestic space. Her practice draws on intersectional feminism, gender roles, capitalism, and the 'American Dream'. Formally her pieces explore that tension in her use of materials and execution. 'Dream Home' paintings become dreamy, aspirational, and unattainable; ceramic pieces become over-decorated and negate functionality. She also creates functional ceramics, another exploration of domestic comforts.

Emily has been an active artist for over twenty years and a member of several artist groups, including The Exhibitionists and Open Ground. She received a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design and an MFA from Brooklyn College, City University of New York. In 2020 she received the Queens Council for the Arts New Work Grant.

Bicht lives in Peekskill, NY with her traveling companion and two small cyclones.
